3D printed copy of a sculpture attributed to Nicola Pisano

Photogrammetry, 3D modelling and printing of a marble sculpture representing a female head placed on the southern façade of the Duomo of Siena.

According to the art historian Valentina Manganaro, the sculpture could be attributed to Nicola Pisano (1223 – 1281), Italian sculptor and architect who is considered one of the main masters of gothic sculpture in Europe.

The reproduction of the sculpture uses polyamide material printed with MJF techonology covered by weather-resistant material. The original sculpture is preserved in Museo dell’Opera della Metropolitana di Siena while the reproduction will be place on the façade of the Duomo.
