Reproduction of a sculpture attributed to Nicola Pisano

The project is carried out in collaboration with Opera della Metropolitana di Siena to develop a digital model and a 3D printed reproduction of a marble sculpture representing a female head, that was originally placed on the south facade of the Duomo in Siena.
According to the art historian Valentina Manganaro, the sculpture could be attributed to Nicola Pisano (1223 – 1281), Italian sculptor and architect who is considered one of the main masters of gothic sculpture in Europe.

The 3D printed reproduction of the sculpture with weather-resistant material is going to be placed on the facade of the Duomo in Siena in January 2020, while the original sculpture is going to be preserved and exhibited at the Museo dell’Opera.

The following pictures show the reproduction and the original sculpture, both after a restoration process.
